BASK Detroit

Location: Detroit, Michigan
Size:   2,300 SF

Located in Detroit’s Brush Park neighborhood, BASK Detroit reimagines sauna and cold plunge as more than amenities—they become the foundation for a shared ritual centered on wellness, resilience, and community.

Designed as the flagship location for a new wellness concept, the project transformed a raw ground-floor shell space into a 2,300-square-foot environment organized around a continuous sequence of heat, cold, and recovery. Sauna, cold plunge, showers, and locker areas were carefully choreographed to support a repeatable cycle of use, allowing guests to move fluidly between experiences while reinforcing the mental transition from the pace of daily life to intentional restoration.

Working within a compact footprint and limited initial budget, the design distilled the program to its essential elements while preserving opportunities for future growth. Locker rooms became more than support spaces, serving as thresholds that separate street from ritual and organize the experience of the club itself.

The resulting environment balances warmth and restraint through natural materials, controlled daylight, and a clear circulation strategy. Since opening, BASK has become both a successful proof of concept and a growing community hub, supporting collaborations with other wellness practitioners and laying the groundwork for future expansion.
